    What is a denture?

Dentures are an artificial replacement of missing teeth. These are removable prostheses.

    What are types of dentures?

    1.Complete dentures
    2.Partial dentures

    1.Complete dentures

These are for the Replacement of all the missing teeth.

    2.Partial dentures

These dentures are for replacement of some but not all missing teeth.

Will I be able to chew with the dentures?

Yes, surely you will be able to chew the food with your dentures but after a good amount of practice, since it's a foreign body, it takes some time to adjust with the dentures. Also denture takes time to get well adapted by your oral tissues…

What can I expect from my dentures??

The success rate of the dentures totally depends on the state and quality of your alveolar bone (bone that holds teeth in their place).

If the alveolar bone is compromised, the stability and retention of the denture gets compromised and may necessitate the use of denture adhesives.

Will I get ulcers after the dentures are placed?

It's not necessary that you will get ulcers; you may or may not get the ulcers. The areas of the oral cavity where the denture hurts for a long duration get inflamed and then the ulcer develops. Therefore its mandatory that even if you are feeling slightest irritation you should see your dentist and get your denture trimmed. This will minimize the chances of getting ulcers.

    Maintenance of the dentures:

1.Dentures are very easy to clean and maintain.
2.They should be removed from the oral cavity every night and placed in a close tight container with lid.
3.Whenever the dentures are not in mouth they should be placed in water.
4.For cleaning the dentures you can use soft brushes.
5.Denture cleansing tablets should be used once or twice a week.
    6. Dentures should be prevented from falling as they are fragile and can break.
    7. After around 3 years dentures should be changed.
